Message Translation

A Stitch Plus feature that translates a message in place. Choose or detect the source language, pick a target language, and toggle between original and translated text.

What message translation does

Message translation lets you read a message or media caption in a different language without leaving the chat. It works on text messages and captions, and shows the translated text right under the original so you can compare them.

This is a Stitch Plus feature. If you are not subscribed, tapping Translate will point you to Stitch Plus instead of running the translation.

How to translate a message

  1. Long-press the message (or right-click it on the web).
  2. Tap Translate to open the translation sheet.
  3. Under "Translate from," leave it on Detect language to auto-detect, or choose the source language yourself.
  4. Under "Translate to," pick the language you want to read it in — this defaults to your device or browser language.
  5. Tap Translate. The result appears under the original text, with a Show original / Show translation toggle so you can switch back at any time.

When automatic detection struggles

Detect Language usually works well, but very short messages, single words, slang, emoji-only messages, or mixed-language text can be harder to identify correctly, since there is little context to work with.

If a translation looks off, or the wrong source language was detected, open the translation sheet again and choose the source language yourself instead of relying on Detect Language.

Supported languages and accuracy

Message translation supports many languages, not all languages — the list is whatever Microsoft Translator currently supports. Translations are produced automatically and may not always be accurate, especially for idioms, slang, technical terms, or context-dependent phrasing. Read the translation as a helpful guide, not a certified or guaranteed rendering of the original message.

What gets sent, and why translation may be limited at times

Nothing is translated automatically or in the background. Only the specific message or caption you choose to translate is sent to Microsoft Translator to produce that one result — Stitch does not send your other messages, your contacts, or any other conversation content.

To keep the service fast and reliable for everyone, translated results may be cached and reused, and there is a daily limit per account on how many translations can be requested. If you hit that limit, wait and try again later.
